Things to do for January 30th

Thursday

Abeka (Spelling/Reading/Phonics)

  • Phonics Lesson 96
  • Lesson 97 in Spelling, Reading, and Phonics 
    • There are corresponding workbook pages for the Spelling book, Letters & Sounds (for those utilizing Abeka phonics), Language book, and the Readers. 
    • Work on the poem "God Gave Me Eyes" on page 69 of your Spelling and Poetry Book.

Writing

  • This week's writing assignment will be "The Life Cycle of a Frog".


Handwriting

  • Lesson 14 Day 1
     

Grammar

  • Work on your winter, December, January, and February pages. The children simply need to write the season on the first page, December on the next, January, and then February.  Each one should be decorated, but more importantly, should display a capitalized proper noun for the month, but a lower case letter for the season, "winter".  Just spread this out through the week!
  • Study grammar cards!

 

 

Spanish

  • Study pages 16 & 17

 

Math

  • In math class yesterday, we played a card game that uses mental math strategies with numbers up to 20.  I was really impressed with how far they have come with the mental math "tools" that we worked on last semester, using them on their own!
  • Work through and discuss 
    • Textbook page 22-26
    • Workbook pages 30-33


History

  •  Read chapter 29. Rome's War with Carthage

    What city did Rome fight?
    What did they fight over?
    Was it a long or short war?
    What were the wars called?
    What did Hannibal do?
    Who won-Carthage or Rome?
    What did Hannibal do when Carthage surrendered?

 

Science

  • Review chapter 8.  See if you remember the main ideas!
  • Make a model of a butterfly, using anything you'd like.
    • Make sure your model has antennae, a head, throrax, abdomen, and wings.

 



Friday

  • Make a model of a butterfly, using anything you'd like!
    • Make sure your model has antennae, a head, throrax, abdomen, and wings.

  • Lesson 100 in Spelling, Reading, and Phonics 
    • There are corresponding workbook pages for the Spelling book, Letters & Sounds (for those utilizing Abeka phonics), Language book, and the Readers.
    • In class tomorrow, we will review this week's spelling list.  This is the list that you began at home on Thursday of last week, so we will be playing a review game with it in prep for their at home spelling test.
    • Work on the poem "God Gave Me Eyes" on page 69 of your Spelling and Poetry Book.
