For 5/13

The kids already had this week's writing assignment, but just in case they forgot....

Write your own story about magic beans!  Don't rewrite Jack and the Beanstalk.  Come up with your own special story.  It just has to include magic beans in any way you'd like!

  • Bring in registration forms and payment for workshop #1 to hold your spot for next year's class.

  • On our last day of class, we will have a extra fun snack-time "party". Feel free to bring in a snack, treat, dessert, or food to share with the class!   This is low stress.  Just drop of something to share and we'll have a fun-filled snack/lunchtime!   (I'll have cups, plates, and napkins, but if someone could bring in drinks and ice, that would be great! Just let me know if you'd like to do that and I'll let the other parents know it's covered!)

For 4/1

For next week, you get to take your story board and all of the brainstorming that you have been doing and actually write your story!

Do your very best, and bring it in next week to share with the class!

Things to do before 3/25!

Hi!

We learned a LOT in our last class about writing!  In our book "The Plot Chickens", Henrietta learned some great "rules" for writing.  For class, use your story map to come up with ideas for your chicken story.  You do not have to actually WRITE your story yet. Just come up with ideas for your characters, setting, plot, and solution.  We will share our ideas in class, and then we will talk about how to turn it into a story!

Are you one of the people who left your story map in class?  If so, click here to print a new one.

Remember, we are working on respect and classroom volume.  Be prepared to use your "Yes Ma'am" and "No Ma'am"... and to say please and thank you!  Our class takes manners and kindness very seriously.  Be ready to have fun, but to be able to learn and follow directions, too!

For 2/28!

For next week, I want you to do something a little different!

Think about the livestock guardian animals that you have learned about so far.  I want you to pick one, or some, or all of them, and come up with Super Hero names!  (You can even think about other types of farm guardians!)

We are going to do something fun in class with our ideas!

Things to do by 1/21

This week's writing assignment (choose one):

  • Write a story about a donkey that protects his farm from danger.  Use at least 4 words from your word list!

  • A friend of yours wants to buy a donkey to be a livestock guardian dog, but he or she does not know anything about donkeys!  Write a letter to him/her, explaining all about donkeys.  Use your word list!

Things to do before 1/14!

Welcome back, class!

In the last class, we learned all about guardians of the farm.  We focused on guardian livestock dogs such as the great pyrenees.  Here are a few writing topics for your writing assignment.  Just choose one, do your best, and bring it in to share with your friends!

  • Write a story about the dog that visited our class, Pooh Bear!

  • Write a story about a guardian dog that protected a farm from danger.

  • Write about the difference between livestock guardian dogs, service dogs, and herding dogs, and pet dogs!

Here are a few great websites just in case you'd like to learn more!
