Things to do for Wednesday, 10/3

Thursday

Abeka (Spelling/Reading/Phonics)

  • Lesson  in 31 Curriculum Guide on Phonics Only
  • Lesson 32 in Spelling and Phonics 
    • The kids are REALLY enjoying reading from their readers aloud (go figure!), and we finished the book "Fun with Pets" in class.  You can skip today's AM reading lesson and pick up with the PM reading of pages 2-3 in "TipToes".
    • Corresponding workbook pages listed in Curriculum Guide for each lesson.
    • If you are following the Abeka spelling lessons, you will be assessing the list today.  You can do check their spelling verbally or in writing.  Introduce list #4.  Each Wednesday, we will be reviewing their spelling list in class.  If it is the first time they have seen the list, they will most likely have trouble with the review game. Most of them did great with the list 3 review yesterday!


Handwriting

  • Turn to page 41  in your workbook and complete Day 1. 
  • Now that we have completed the alphabet letter by letter, we will be moving on to weekly handwriting lessons.  For each lesson, you will be doing Day 1 on Thursdays, Day 2 on Fridays, Day 3 on Mondays, and then you will be writing the Bible verse for Day 4 onto a border sheet from the back of the book on Tuesdays. These border sheets are like "quizzes".  Take your time and do your best-- make them look great!  Bring them in on Wednesdays to display them!
     

Grammar

  • Lesson 26 with parents.
  • They are doing much better with common and proper nouns!  There is still confusion on brand names, such as Oreo, Lego, etc.

 

Spanish

  • Do pages 12-13 in your workbook.

 

 

Math

  • Extra Practice Book page 29-34


Science

  • For next Wednesday, you will need to find two substances at home that are non-soluble.  Either bring it in, take a picture of it, or draw a picture!


History

  • Read pages 59-61 in Story of the World and discuss!

  • Practice the song "C, D, E" in the blue and white book.
  • Listen to your CD ALWAYS!!!  Every day, in the car, at home... EVERYWHERE.

Writing

  • Find a ruler.  See how long 6" is.  Now, turn the ruler so that it is standing up on the table or floor.  See how tall 6" is from the floor/table.
  • What would life be like if you were only six inches tall? 
  • Write about it!  Use your best handwriting and use your imagination!

    • In class tomorrow, we will review spelling list #4. This is the list that you began at home on Thursday of last week, so we will be playing a review game with it in prep for their at home assessment.

 

Handwriting

  • Choose a border sheet from the back of your handwriting book.  Either tear it out or make a copy of it.  Take the Bible verse from Lesson 1, Day 4, and copy it very carefully onto the border sheet.  Color it and bring it to class tomorrow!  This is like your weekly handwriting quiz, so do your very best!

 

Writing

  • Be sure to finish your writing.  Do your best! We will show it off in class!

Thursday

  • If you are following the Abeka spelling lessons, you will be assessing the list today.  You can do check their spelling verbally or in writing.  Introduce list #3.  Each Wednesday, we will be reviewing their spelling list in class.  If it is the first time they have seen the list, they will most likely have trouble with the review game.


Handwriting

  • Compare yesterday's work (lesson 26) to the work from the first two weeks of class!  Everyone is doing a great job!

  • Do Lesson 21 with parents.
    • Be sure to review common and proper nouns thoroughly.  It is still tricky for some!
  • Study the poem, "Work".  We will be recording it on Wednesday!

 

Spanish

  • Only half the class had their worksheets from the at-home work, which made it a sad day for stars!  :(
  • Listen to #15 on your CD.  It is the song you worked on yesterday in class.  Listen to this class and sing it each day, so that you will know the words next week in class!

 

 

Math

  • The students took a math test in class yesterday!  Today, I would like for them to look over the tests and work on any problems that they missed. 
  • Play this math game!

  • Turn to page 47 in you lab book.  Answer the questions about the lab that we did in class.  Oral or written answers are fine!
  • For those mixtures that weren't done in class, make your best guess (hypothesis) as to what would happen!


History

  • Read p. 51 to the bottom of page 53 in Story of the World and discuss.


Writing

  • Take out your writing assignment sheet from yesterday.  Think about your favorite hiding spot.  Write all about it!  Use complete sentences and make sure to use your best handwriting!  These will go in your writing folder, and we are going to hand them up to show the class!

    • In class tomorrow, we will review spelling list #3. For those of you not choosing to use the Abeka curriculum, it will be best if your child is not seeing the spelling list for the first time.  It causes distractions and makes it difficult to teach the children as a group.  This class has been scheduled at the beginning of the day to address this issue.
    • In class tomorrow, we will be discussing the following concepts learned from at-home materials.  For those not using the Abeka curriculum, you may want to touch on these so that your child is not hearing them for the first time.
      • The definition of a compound word.
      • The letters l, f, and s often show up in pairs at the end of short-vowel words, such as in doll, small, miss, hill, etc.
