Things to do for Wednesday, 9/5

Thursday

Abeka (Spelling/Reading/Phonics)

  • Lesson 12  in Curriculum GuideInstruction on Phonics/Reading/Spelling/etc for the lesson, with workbook pages listed in Curriculum Guide for each lesson.

    Handwriting

    • Do Lesson 11 & 12 in your workbook.  Take your time and do your very best!

    Grammar

    • Be sure to review the poem, "The Caterpillar" from lesson 2. 
    • Watch this video... but know that our definition of a noun says that it is a person, place, thing, or IDEA!  You cannot hold happiness, sadness, or freedom, but it is a noun!

     

    Spanish

    • Listen to the song, "Lose Colores".
    • Practice with your number line!

      • Extra practice pages 15-16



      Science

      • See if you can remember our experiment from yesterday and do page 29 in your experiment book.  You don't have to write it down, just discuss it!
      • For next Wednesday, make a molecule at home using anything you'd like!  Bring it on Wednesday.
      • Also, read & discuss chapter 3 in your book for next Wednesday.

      History

      • Read your packet on Mesopotamia.  You can color the pictures, as well.  Add it to your Mesopotamia pocket!

      Writing

      • You know those eggs that are in the incubator at the school house?  Well... I want you to write a story about if one hatched out a big surprise... that wasn't a chicken at all!  Write your story and bring it in to share with the class on Wednesday!

      Music

      • If you are in music class, practice "Learning Middle C" 10 times every day!

      • Lesson 13 & 14  in Curriculum Guide
        • Instruction on Phonics/Reading/Spelling/etc for the lesson, with workbook pages listed in Curriculum Guide.  
        • Lesson 13 is a testing day in Phonics, so it is a fairly light day, but feel free to spread these two lessons out in any way needed!

       

      Handwriting

      • Do Lesson 13 in your workbook on tail, two-stroke letters j & y.  
      • Take your time and do your very best!


      Grammar

      • Review the poem, "The Caterpillar" from lesson 2. We are going to recite them on Wednesday for our videos!
      • Draw 3 pictures that illustrate this poem.  Make them BIG and BRIGHT (dark colors work best... don't color too lightly!).  Write your names on the back and be sure to bring them in on Wednesday.

       Spanish

      • Listen to the song, "Lose Colores".
      • Practice with your number line!

      Math

        • You will be going over textbook pages 27-31
        • Workbook pages 28-30

        History

        • Review your packet on Mesopotamia.
        • Do the "Words to Know" activity.  For this, you will first need to cut out the words ziggurat, flax, grains, and city-state.  Also, cut out (and color, if you would like) the pictures.
        • Cut along the dotted lines on your page, so you can fold the flaps over.
        • Glue one word in each box on the Words to Know page.
        • On the back of the flap, glue the picture for each word.
        • Write a short definition for each word. (modify, as needed)

        Writing

        • Find Egypt.  Cheops's pyramid was located to the west, or on the left side, of the Nile River.  On your map, draw a golden pyramid where Cheops's Great Pyramid and Sphinx were located.

          • Did the Egyptians worship one god or many gods?
          • Can you name any of them?
          • Many people in the world have different religions.  How does the Egyptians' religion differ from yours?
          • Do you remember Osiris' evil brother's name?
          • How did Set get Osiris to lie down in the coffin?
          • Did Osiris stay dead?

        • Find Egypt on your ap and shade it lightly in red.  Remember, the White Crown King united Egypt into one country.  He wore the red crown over his own white crown.
        • Find the Nile River.  Trace it in Blue. Many people in Egypt lived along the Nile River and near the Nile Delta.
        • Find Sumer and shade it lightly green.  Egypt and Sumer are the two countries where people first learned to write.

        •  Make observations of 2 small objects in your home.  Draw a picture of one of the objects on page 6 of your lab workbook.  Come up with words to describe the object.  Then, draw a picture of the other object on page 7 of your workbook.  Write words to describe it.  Then, answer the questions on page 8.

        • Goals:
          • Make up number stories to illustrate number bonds. 
          • Associate number bonds with part-whole. 
          • Divide groups in different ways. 
          • Find and memorize number pairs that make 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

        • Start at your birth and make a timeline of your life!  Be sure to include important things that have happened to you along the way.  You can color it, add photos, anything you'd like!  Bring it to share with the class on Wednesday.

        • Things to discuss:
          • What sort of food did nomads eat?
          • Where did nomads sleep?
          • Why did nomads move from place to place?
          • What does "nomad" mean?
          • Why was the Fertile Crescent a good place to live?
          • Why was it called "fertile"?
          • What was it shaped like?
          • What did the first farmers grow?
          • Did farmers move from place to place like nomads?
          • How did farmers water their crops?
          • Did the farmers still hunt wild animals?
          • What did the farmers build their houses out of?
          • How did they protect their village?
        • Use this map to do the following:
          • Find and circle the town of Jericho.
          • Trace the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in blue.  
          • Lightly shade the seas blue.
          • Use a green crayon or colored pencil to color in the area between and around the Tigris and the Euphrates Rivers.  This is the Fertile Crescent, and some nomads moved here because it was so easy to find food.
        • If you want to, you can color the coloring page of A Farmer Using a Shaduf.
