Abeka (Spelling/Reading/Phonics)

  • Phonics & Reading Lessons 121
  • Lesson 122 in Spelling, Reading, and Phonics 
    • There are corresponding workbook pages for the Spelling book, Letters & Sounds (for those utilizing Abeka phonics), Language book, and the Readers.
    • Due to only one of the students using the spelling lists at home, I will give spelling list instruction instead of review games.  This will prevent everyone else from trying to get in the spelling list study for the week the day before or that morning.

Writing / Science

  • Remember "In the Forest of S.T. Shrew"?  For this week's writing assignment, YOU get to write Jackie's next adventure!  She will shrink in size again and explore a different microhabitat.  Here are some examples that you could use for your microhabitat:
    • a clump of grass
    • inbetween or under rocks
    • a puddle of water
    • Do some research and write a great story to share in class!
  • Write your story and put it in your folder.  You will have a field trip on Wednesday, but you will have a NEW writing assignment for next week.  You need to bring BOTH in the next time you are in class!

  • Half the class completed the seasons booklets.  If you are still working on the sheets at home, I sent home the previously collected pages so you can compile.  The two that finished decided to keep it in their writing folder.  For the other two, just send it back in if you would like me to add it to theirs, as well.

  • We learned about St. Valentine in class yesterday.  While he was in prison, he was comforted by all of the many letters that he received from people who loved him.  
  • Your writing assignment is to write a letter to someone who is over seas, fighting for our country in our military.  You do not know this person, but you can write a letter explaining your feelings about him or her being there, ask questions, and give him or her your gratitude!

    • We have not needed videos this week.  However, when videos are posted, they are meant to be a "lecture" to watch before completing the assignment.  Watching the video after completing the assignment will prevent you from utilizing the methods explained in the lecture.  If you do not like the videos, you will need to purchase the Singapore Math Standards Edition 1B Home Instructor's Guide and teach the lesson along with the assignments in order to get a complete 1st grade math program.

Valentine's Day Celebration tomorrow!  We will be giving out Valentines (into the bags that we decorate in the morning) and then having a treat after lunch.  :)
